In accordance with the objectives of the European Union and of legislation, one of the priorities in construction waste management is recycling and re-using rubble and soil in order to take maximum advantage of the re-usable fractions. The strategy makes it possible to progress towards more sustainable construction by turning waste into new raw materials.

The pioneering nature of GRC lies in the company’s firm commitment to recycling and re-using earth and rubble, through a strategic plan for recycling, as well as studying and researching new technologies in this field.

Controlled disposal

GRC’s strategy for the territory is based to a great extent on restoring natural spaces deteriorated by a variety of activities, and also on overall planning using sites in the different counties to minimise the costs and processes involved in management, transport and controlled disposal.

To undertake this expansion the company prioritises cooperation with local authorities and companies, seeking new destinations for construction waste and offering services to builders where they do not have suitable facilities.

Recycled aggregates

GRC produces a wide range of high-quality recycled aggregates. Each site produces materials according to the waste it takes, the equipment it uses and demand on the market.

Products

Recycled aggregates are generally produced by processing concrete and ceramic waste together and, to order, aggregates are marketed based on different types of construction waste separately.

Re-using soil

Recovery and subsequent re-use of clean soil left over from excavation work aims to make use of these natural resources in new filling work and other projects requiring earth.

GRC fosters landscape and environmental restoration of quarries and other deteriorated places, and also the improvement of agricultural land. These measures seek to make re-use of soil compatible with respecting animal and plant life in local ecosystems.

Advice on prevention and separation of waste at source:

GRC offers companies consulting services to manage construction waste properly in the place where the rubble is generated: on site. The aim of this support is to help the construction market to comply with regulations on construction and demolition waste management, promote good practices in preventing and minimising waste and encourage the use of recycled materials.

GRC places its specialist technical knowledge at companies’ disposal, to draw up a waste management plan for every project, in accordance with the ecoefficiency decree and also with the royal decree regulating the production and management of waste of this kind.

Agreements with the Authorities

In the public sphere, together with the ARC, the Catalan waste agency, GRC has signed various cooperation agreements in cases where the authorities act as developer of construction and civil engineering projects.
